Developers can now test these hidden iOS 27.2 features before everyone else – Automated Home

Apple opened testing for several iOS 27.2 features just two days after iOS 27 arrived. The first developer beta includes changes involving Health, Siri, FaceTime, Apple TV, calls, privacy, and developer tools.

In an unusual release sequence, Apple issued iOS 27.2 beta 1 on September 16 before releasing its iOS 27.1 development tools. Apple has separately confirmed that iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1.

Some iOS 27.2 features are already usable in beta, while others remain incomplete. Among the most notable additions are the redesigned Health app, expanded Siri AI language support, and Dual Capture for Group FaceTime.

Why did Apple jump to iOS 27.2?

Apple released iOS 27.2 beta 1 on September 16, 2026, only two days after the public launch of iOS 27. The developer build is numbered 24B5084k.

Apple has separately confirmed that iPhone Duo will launch October 23 running iOS 27.1. That release includes features designed specifically for the foldable device, while iOS 27.2 is being tested in parallel for the broader iPhone lineup.

A new Health app becomes the headline

The biggest change is a redesigned Health app that uses Apple Intelligence to provide more contextual information from health and fitness data. It introduces new Insights and Longevity tabs, while readiness information from supported Apple Watch models can also appear inside the experience.

Insights provides summaries that update throughout the day across areas such as heart health, sleep, readiness, fitness and vitals, along with personalized recommendations. Longevity focuses on longer-term patterns involving heart health, sleep, movement, metabolic health and other metrics.

Health testing is limited for now

Developers with compatible devices can test the new Insights and Longevity tabs. Personalized Health recommendations remain incomplete in the early beta, making the current experience a preview of Apple’s broader redesign.

The beta currently requires U.S. English and an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone. Some features also depend on Apple Watch data, including Health Age and readiness information.

Little-known fact: Apple’s heart-rate accuracy study behind the new Health redesign involved over 1,000 participants and found its Watch sensing system the most accurate of the wearables tested.

Siri gets five more languages

Siri AI expands beyond English in the iOS 27.2 beta with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

On compatible Apple Intelligence devices, Siri and the device language must be set to a supported matching language. Siri AI includes features such as personal context understanding, onscreen awareness, and expanded actions across apps.

The expansion does not remove every regional restriction. Apple says Siri AI is not initially available on iPhone in the European Union.

Little-known fact: Apple Intelligence itself already supports 16 languages system-wide, even though Siri AI launched in English only before its five-language expansion.

Group FaceTime can show two cameras

Dual Capture previously allowed supported iPhones to combine front and rear camera feeds during one-to-one calls. iOS 27.2 beta 1 extends that capability to Group FaceTime, creating a useful option for demonstrations.

On an iPhone 17 family model or iPhone Air, users can tap their inset tile and choose Flip to Back Camera. The rear camera becomes the main view while the user’s face remains visible in a smaller overlay.

Recipients need iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later to see the dual feed. For smart-home users, the feature could simplify showing a device installation, sensor location, or setup problem during a group call.

Apple TV profiles reach the iPhone

The Apple TV app on iPhone is also gaining user profiles in beta 1. The feature mirrors profiles introduced with tvOS 26.2 and lets different household members maintain separate viewing preferences.

Users can create and switch between profiles within the Apple TV app, keeping recommendations and watchlists associated with individual people. That could reduce recommendation clutter when one shared device serves an entire household.

Call Context adds useful reminders

Apple Intelligence’s Call Context feature is gaining another small convenience. When a contact has a saved anniversary date, the Phone app can surface a contextual reminder when placing a call.

Early reports also reference birthday reminders, giving the feature a broader social purpose. Instead of requiring a separate reminder app, the Phone experience can place relevant information directly alongside the moment of contact.

EU users get regional changes

iOS 27.2 includes changes aimed specifically at users and developers in the European Union. Apple now offers an alternative App Tracking Transparency consent prompt, and that version is required for apps distributed in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania.

Developers can choose the alternative ATT prompt elsewhere in the European Union, while the underlying requirement to request tracking permission remains unchanged.

Apple’s Call Screening feature also gains Italian support in the beta. The feature can ask an unknown caller to identify themselves and explain why they are calling before the iPhone rings.

Developers get quieter system changes

iOS 27.2 beta code introduces a system-managed migration feature that can move supported data, permissions and settings from an older app to a designated replacement from the same developer.

The beta also references a more thorough device-erasure option that overwrites storage with blank data. Current testing indicates the feature is intended for devices sold in China, where new data-erasure requirements take effect in 2027.

Two previously announced Apple Intelligence features remain absent: contextual suggestions in Messages and automatic help updating weak or compromised passwords. Apple says both are coming in a future software update but has not confirmed which iOS version will include them.

Which iPhones can test these features?

Apple Intelligence features in this beta require compatible iPhones, including the iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone Air. The Health preview also currently requires U.S. English.

Group FaceTime Dual Capture has a narrower hardware requirement. It works on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, while recipients need newer Apple operating systems to view both feeds.

What should developers watch next?

The first iOS 27.2 beta is less about a single headline feature and more about Apple’s next layer of intelligent, connected-device experiences. Health, Siri, communications, entertainment, and privacy changes are appearing together.

The Health redesign is particularly important because it connects iPhone and Apple Watch data with AI-generated interpretation. If later builds activate more recommendations, it could become a more active part of Apple’s broader connected ecosystem.

For now, developers should treat beta 1 as an early testing ground rather than a guarantee of final features. Apple can alter functionality before public releases, and some changes are explicitly scheduled for later or withheld from the first public 27.2 version.

TL;DR

• iOS 27.2 beta 1 arrived September 16, 2026, with early previews spanning Health, Siri, FaceTime, Apple TV, calls, and developer APIs.
• The redesigned Health app uses Apple Intelligence to surface health trends and long-term insights, although personalized guidance remains incomplete during early testing.
• Siri now supports five additional AI languages in testing, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, beyond English.
• Group FaceTime can combine front and rear camera feeds on supported iPhone 17 models, creating easier ways to demonstrate devices remotely.
• Apple TV profiles bring household personalization to the iPhone app, separating recommendations and watchlists for people sharing Apple services.
• EU-specific changes add Italian unknown-caller filtering and introduce an alternative tracking-consent flow for developers facing regional requirements.
• Apple has not yet included delayed AI reply suggestions or password-fixing assistance, leaving room for additional features in future beta builds.
